The female soul wears many masks to survive in today's world.
Freud wrote of the 'Mother, Madonna, Whore' complex inherent in our nature and society is afraid
when it can't categorize others.The women in this project transgress boundaries as they are on
the cusp between age,race,culture and gender.

Based on visits to a variety of nightclubs which deviate from the norm, 'Behind The Mask' features
women at play, revealing layers of complex identity behind the flamboyant masquerade.
From small town preteens to transvestites, 'English rose' bellydancers to westernized Asian
students, middle aged divorcees to adolescent urban rappers, my interest is in showing women in
all their diversity as sisters under the skin.
The chiarascuro lighting acts as iconographer in the seediest of nocturnal settings.

I have exhibited at Photofusion, Brixton ,Camera Club, Kennington and the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh.
The project was nominated in the BJP/Nikon Endframe Award and won the Jewish Museum Identities competition.
